Excellence Playa Mujeres

This superb resort opened just to the north of Cancun on the 1 November 2007 and we were privileged to be amongst the first people to stay there.
The hotel is adults-only, and is situated facing Isla Mujeres (the Island of Women), as part of a new development which includes a marina and a spectacular Greg Norman signature golf course right on the Caribbean. The accommodation is spectacular and features suites which have been furnished in an elegant contemporary decor and many have expansive rooftop tearrces complete with a private HydroSpa Pool.
The most striking aspect of our stay had to be the staff who were efficient but friendly, and courteous without being sycophantic. Their attitude to any request we made was positive leaving me with the impression that the word ‘no’ is not part of their vocabulary.
The resort offers all-inclusive service including premium brand liqour and restaurants that tantalise even the most demanding diners. Our own favourite was Chez Isabelle, a superb French restaurant overlooking the resorts plaza (ask for one of the siderooms). The Tuna Risotto left a lasting impression and the wine list provides a complementary selection which favours the New World and at a very high standard.
The other restaurants are almost as impressive, Agave provides a Mexican option, Toscana caters for Italian fans, and Spice brings a taste of the East and a Sushi Bar to the mix. The Lobster House and The Grill are located facing the Caribbean and offer both a lunch option and dinner with steaks, meat dishes, and of course lobster, as the focal point of dinner. Barcelona is a versatile restaurant which is great for Breakfast and Lunch as well as a more casual dinner experience. The Flavour Market, which is a specialist restaurant which pairs fine wines and exuisite food was not open but should be very soon. If this is not enough, try the 24 hour room service which is also part of the all-inclusive option!
Before dinner, or throughout the day, you have the option of up to 10 bars offering international branded drinks as well as refreshing soft drinks and juices and water. Be sure to sample some of the excellent selection of colourful, delicious cocktails mixed by yhe enthusiastic bar staff.
Excellence Playa Mujeres has an excellent activity programme of sports such as tennis, volleyball, water polo, aquaerobics, dance lessons and evening entertainment in the resorts spacious theatre featuring a different show each evening and including, a magic Night, Prehispanic Folk show, Las Vegas Night, Caribbean Night etc.
The Spa is literally an island (surrounded by pools) of wellness, with a range of treatments including ayurveda, steam rooms, massages, and other private treatments. You will also find a hair and beauty salon with skin treatments and a spa boutique. To further your wellbeing try out the on-site gym or one of the daily classes in spinning, yoga or aerobics.
